As a follow up to my previous entry on dealing with injuries, the following compounds act as natural pain killers.
Bromelain: This natural compound found in pineapples contains several proteolytic enzymes known to reduce inflammation. Though proteolytic enzymes are mainly used as a digestive aid for people who have trouble digesting protein it is also known to reduce pain and inflammation.
Turmeric: Turmeric has been used a natural anti-inflammatory from ages. Curcumin derived from turmeric is known to inhibit COX-2, the enzyme responsible for the production of pain and inflammation in muscles and other tissues.
Papain: Papain derived from papaya is mainly used an enzyme to aid in protein digestion, but it is also known to improve circulation and reduce inflammation.
Ginger: Since many centuries ginger extract has been used to reduce pain and inflammation.
Citrus Bioflavonoids: Citrus fruit beverages such as orange juice, grape juice, and lemonade are also known to regress pain and improve one’s mobility. They also inhibit collagenase and elastase, the enzymes responsible for the breakdown of connective tissue.
One can consider supplementing with these natural aids.
